Auckland Airport announced today a new organisational structure and leadership team to lead the next stage in the growth of New Zealand’s gateway.
The new Auckland Airport leadership structure comprises three profit-centre divisions of Aeronautical, Retail and Property, supported by a new aeronautical business development unit and a lean corporate centre. Responsibilities of the former Engineering division have been incorporated into other divisions.
Chief executive officer Simon Moutter said, “The focus in recent years at Auckland Airport has been very much on building infrastructure and capacity. Moving forward the leadership emphasis will be on ensuring we make the most of our recent infrastructure investment and enhance services to our airline customers and passengers. In essence, the focus will be on “people not planes”.
The shift in focus away from building infrastructure and capacity to building customer and passenger experience has meant realigning leadership team resources. This has seen the introduction of several new faces and new roles, and the departure in November of general manager engineering, Steve Reindler.
The arrival in November of Andrew Pirie as strategic communications advisor, and the arrivals early next year of Glenn Wedlock as the general manager aeronautical business development and Adrian Littlewood as the general manager retail means the final pieces of the leadership team jigsaw are in place.
Moutter concluded, “With tougher global economic conditions and volatile fuel prices influencing likely passenger and airfreight demand, it is critical that Auckland Airport puts significantly more focus on business development activity, partner support and working on new growth strategies. It will also be essential that we focus on productivity gains through all levels of the business. We now have the leadership team and structure in place to do this.”

Simon Moutter
Chief executive officer
Simon is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and executive management of Auckland Airport. Prior to joining us this year, Simon was chief operating officer at Telecom, managing most parts of the business at one time or
another. This was preceded by 13 years in the electricity and gas industries.
Tony Gollin
Chief operating officer aeronautical
Tony is responsible for the aeronautical business and provides a seamless service
between Auckland Airport and aeronautical customers. He is also responsible for design, construction, operation and maintenance of airside and terminal building facilities. Tony rejoined us in 2004, after previously working for us from 1988 to 1997. Tony is an aviation industry specialist who has worked in international airport development and investment roles and senior economic roles in the public and private sector.
Glenn Wedlock
General manager aeronautical business development
Glenn is responsible for developing and growing new and existing commercial relationships with airline, trade and tourism customers, covering both passenger and freight activities. Glenn will be joining us in January 2009. Currently CEO of Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds and Mitre Peak Cruises, he has previously worked with Infratil Airports in Europe and Christchurch International Airport.
Adrian Littlewood
General manager retail
Adrian is responsible for all of our car parking and retail businesses, including duty free, speciality retail and food & beverage. Adrian is also responsible for passenger experience, brand and marketing activities. He will be joining us in February from Telecom, where his most recent role has been in the mass-market retail business. Adrian has proven strategic marketing skills and wide commercial experience.
Peter Alexander
General manager property
Peter is responsible for our investment property portfolio, including the management of existing assets as well as driving new property developments. Peter joined us this year, and has over 20 years experience in investment management including property investment and development in New Zealand and offshore.
Jason Dale
Chief financial officer
Jason is responsible for managing our corporate strategy and financial affairs. This also includes our ICT strategies, investor relations, and corporate & environmental planning activities. Jason joined us this year and has significant international experience in senior financial and supply-chain management roles with large corporations, with strong financial, governance and transactional background and expertise.
Charles Spillane
General counsel and corporate secretary
Charles is our senior legal adviser and corporate secretary. Charles is also responsible for corporate communications, governance matters, government relations, share registry, risk management, and insurance. Before joining us in 2002,
Charles practised law at Russell McVeagh. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries.
Judy Nicholl
General manager human resources
Judy is responsible for the creation of a high performance culture underpinned by strong HR initiatives. Judy joined us in 2006 and has a human resources background within several industry groups including primary processing, travel and tourism, education and New Zealand Police.
Andrew Pirie
Strategic communications advisor
Andrew provides us with high-level direction on strategic, corporate and stakeholder related issues to ensure the voice of Auckland Airport is heard where it matters. Andrew joined us this year. He is a very experienced communications strategist and until 2007 spent over 11 years working in Asia Pacific, where he was regional CEO for one of the world’s largest public relations firms. Prior to that Andrew held New Zealand-based roles in public relations and journalism.
Mary-Anne Powell
Executive assistant to CEO and office manager
Mary-Anne provides executive assistance to the CEO and manages the corporate office. Mary-Anne joined us this year, and has over 20 years experience in executive assistance and office management. Prior to joining us, she held senior EA roles with Telecom, Progressive, Air New Zealand, and the Auckland DHB
